For some of my pieces I use an unusual firing technique called 'Indian smoke fired'. Pieces are formed, dried, fired once in the kiln and then wrapped with a variety of additives including copper wire and ferric chloride. The pieces are then fired in an old dustbin with holes, the heat makes the fumes follow the pot and creates an unpredictable and unique finish. Whilst still warm the pieces are cleaned and polished with museum quality wax that seals and enhances the colours.
Being an avid beachcomber I often add a found object from the sea or the foreshore of the River Thames.
