Kurinuki' is a Japanese term relating to a particular hand-forming process. This technique employs carving out a shaped solid block of clay to obtain interior space. It is a very meditative process and very time consuming!
A rough shaped is formed from a solid block of clay, it is then carved at different stages of dryness with careful attention to the thickness of the clay.
It results in a very organic piece. I love the concentration required to work with the clay. Different clays produce a range of surface textures. Do see my
